Emma Domb 1950s Chiffon Dress

Such a sweet dress, this really is the quintessential party gown, by Emma Domb, the doyenne of such things from the 1940s through the 1970s. This debuted circa 1954. The fabric is a sheer man made chiffon in a delicate slipper pink, over a matching rustling acetate, and it's as well structured as you'd expect, with boning at the bodice, concealed back (metal) zipper, and a generous pre-tied bow in back that sits deliciously on the full full skirt. The neckline can be worn as shown here, or as modeled by Marie --ie off the shoulder. The effect is altogether a true Cinderella ballgown. The marked size is 12, but it's around a modern size 4.

Measurements: waist: 24", bust 34", length 50" (shoulder to waist 17", skirt 33")

STORY: Marie didn't write a memo for this one; she hadn't started doing those yet, because she was 16 and going to her senior prom. You can imagine the excitement of picking this romantic girly number out, and it would have cost a terrific amount too. Here she is wearing it for the formal portrait. This may have been its only outing!
