Tom Ford YSL Mombasa Jacket

FROM CINDY GALLOP'S CLOSET

One of the most recognizable of Ford's YSL pieces, this iconic cognac leather Mombasa jacket from Spring 2002 is jazzed up by old gold rings all around the edges, punctuated by bronze studs. It's collarless, features two deep front pockets and it fastens by two hooks, the top one of which is missing its eye. It's for Rive Gauche, size (French) 40, made in Italy. Please note the detail shots: the place where the eye should be for the second hook and a pair of missing studs. Otherwise the condition is great, a little scuffed/aged as you'd expect and a tendency for the right edge of the collar to bend a little. All this is reflected in the price--there's one currently on 1st Dibs for $3,995!

Measurements: bust 34", sleeve 23", length 24", shoulder 14"

STORY: I loved this jacket, and bought just about every piece from every collection Tom Ford did for Gucci and YSL. A couple of years ago I got a call from the Tom Ford people. "We hear you have an amazing collection of Tom's pieces," they said. "Would you consider parting with them?" Well, I thought, maybe now that I'm a startup entrepreneur not raking in a massive salary...  "Sure," I said. "How much are you offering?" "Oh, no money. We thought you could donate it to our archive." So I told them no thanks. And put them on Refashioner.
