Graphic Floral Print 1970s Dress

FROM CANDY DARLING'S CLOSET

Half hippie, half hipster, this dress is all about the print: a jungle of white lilies or daffodils, or something, with leaves, outlined in orange, on a black ground. There's no fabric label, but it feels like a poly-cotton blend, and no size marking but it would work on a 4 to probably a 10 given its loose style, and empire waist. There's ruching under the bust, which is on elastic you can clip round the back inside for a snugger fit. Snug being relative. In fact it had bell sleeves but I elasticated them, which I think looks way better, but you can easily extract that. There's a split mandarin collar, a row of black buttons that are decorative and it fastens via nylon zipper. It's just so darn sweet.

Measurements: Bust 34", shoulder 15", Length 54"

STORY: I got it at a vintage stall in Norwich market--that is Norwich, Norfolk, England. It belonged to the owner, who said she only had a stall because she could no longer move for vintage treasures and was therefore selling them off. Even though she still loved them, every one. Woman after my own heart. When I wore it, I wore it backwards, with the row of nonfunctional black buttons in back, and the sleeves pushed right up. You could do that too, or just wear it properly.
